DISCOVERY ROOM · AGES 6–8

Habitat
Sorting Station

Open one find at a time. Put it in a tray, then choose the evidence that makes your choice make sense.

There is no timer or score. This is a nine-find practice route.

Use these two questions

  1. Is it a living organism now?
  2. If not, did it come from a living thing?

If the answer to both is no, it is never alive.

STATION PAUSED

Take your time.

Your current find and choices are waiting exactly as they are.

About Habitat Sorting Station

Inspect one qualified find, place it in living, dead / once alive, or never alive, then choose the evidence that supports the decision.

Suggested age
Ages 6–8
Practice
Practise classifying specified finds as living, dead / once alive, or never alive using organism and provenance evidence
Pace
Untimed nine-find practice route
Controls
Keyboard, Touch, Optional local spoken rule
Reading
Short prompts and labelled choice buttons; optional local spoken rule and adult read-aloud support are available.
Instruction help
Every find has a visible state qualifier, three labelled evidence trays, repeatable three-step clues, and a setting-only notice. The two-question rule is printed in the game and has a local replay button. Spoken instructions are included.

How to play

Inspect one qualified find. Use the two questions, choose a tray, then choose an evidence card. A wrong answer opens a short altered rule check before the child returns to the trays.

Adult help

An adult may need to read the find descriptions and evidence choices aloud. The optional recording reads only the two-question rule. Ask those questions in order and invite the child to point to evidence; the setting is not a tray clue. The off-screen extension is a conversation, not a score.

Accessibility

The recording's wording and pronunciation need primary-science review. Some children will benefit from adult co-reading. Manual accessibility-user review remains open.

Detailed access information
Keyboard
Tab, Enter, and Space operate every station control. Correct feedback moves focus to Next find; altered retries and new finds receive deliberate focus.
Touch
Every core choice is a large native button. No dragging, swiping, or precise pointing is required.
Screen reader
Find names, state qualifiers, setting-only boundary, decision labels, feedback, retry checks, and progress are readable text with live feedback. Manual screen-reader review remains open.
Timing
Untimed. There are no lives, scores, streaks, automatic advances, or speed requirements. Correct feedback stays until Next find is chosen.
Motion
The CSS illustration is static. Reduced-motion preferences also remove interface transitions.
Sound
The bundled local recording of the two-question rule starts only after an explicit button press. Sound is optional and the printed rule remains available if audio is unavailable.
