Accessibility
More ways to join the play.
We are designing toward WCAG 2.2 AA. That is a goal under active testing, not a claim that every experience already conforms.
Shared site foundation
- Site navigation uses semantic headings, links, buttons, and visible keyboard focus.
- Catalog and information pages reflow on phones and at enlarged text sizes.
- Game metadata records keyboard, touch, timing, motion, sound, and screen-reader limits separately.
- Automated browser checks cover focus, target size, overflow, reduced motion, and common WCAG A and AA failures.
Game-by-game access information
These are implementation facts, not conformance claims. Each row is generated from the same game manifest used by the catalog, game page, structured data, and build checks.
| Game | Keyboard | Touch | Timing | Motion | Sound | Instruction support | Screen reader and limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Counting Garden | Use Tab and Enter or Space to show blooms, choose a numeral, use any help route, and continue. | All choices and help routes use large touch controls. One-to-one help uses individual bloom buttons. | Answers are untimed. A child-triggered brief look covers automatically; a three-second longer look is optional support. Correct feedback stays visible until Next garden group is chosen. | There is no required decorative motion. Reduced motion removes decorative transitions but does not shorten or skip the visible-look model. | No sound is required. | A child can replay the brief look or choose a three-second look, then use a five-frame, touch-label counting, or numeral-model help after every covered group. Spoken instructions are not included. | The prompt, bloom group, help representations, choices, feedback, and completion note are exposed as text. Manual screen-reader testing remains pending. There is no spoken prompt, so prereaders may need the first instruction read aloud. The session note is not a measure of learning or a replacement for observation. |
| Bunny Bakery | All core actions use labelled buttons, inputs, and dialogs. | All core actions use large touch controls. | Untimed. Orders wait until the player chooses to continue. | Decorative animation is reduced when the operating system requests reduced motion. | Optional. Every result also has visible text. | A cookie story tray requires a join-or-leave decision and one group move before notation appears. Help progresses from ten-frame to part-whole to number-line views. Spoken instructions are not included. | Story decision, group action, hint stages, number sentence, keypad and bake controls expose labels and status feedback. Manual screen-reader testing remains pending. Spoken prompts are not available, so children who cannot yet read short story prompts may need adult support. This is practice, not a diagnostic or formal assessment. |
| Rainbow Post | All core actions use labelled buttons and can be reached by keyboard. | All core actions use large touch controls. | Untimed. Each delivery waits for the player. | Decorative animation is reduced when the operating system requests reduced motion. | Optional. Every result also has visible text. | The welcome example models a delivery and the replayable hint highlights the matching mailbox. Spoken instructions are not included. | Stamp and mailbox choices have text labels, but the illustrated village is supplementary. Manual screen-reader testing remains pending. There is no spoken prompt, so prereaders may need the first instruction read aloud. |
| Pattern Picnic | Use Tab and Enter or Space to choose an answer, request help, and continue. | All choices and actions use large touch controls. | Untimed. Correct feedback stays visible until Next round is chosen. | Only small decorative effects are used, and they are removed when reduced motion is requested. | No sound is required. | Show the repeating part outlines one complete pattern unit in every round. Spoken instructions are not included. | Patterns, choices, feedback, progress, and help have text labels. Manual screen-reader testing remains pending. Patterns combine colour and shape, but the visual sequence may still need adult description for some players. |
| Shape Builders | Use Tab and Enter or Space to choose a shape, request help, and continue. | All choices and actions use large touch controls. | Untimed. Correct feedback stays visible until Next round is chosen. | Only small decorative effects are used, and they are removed when reduced motion is requested. | No sound is required, and spoken prompts are not available. | Show the matching shape outlines the named answer in every round. Spoken instructions are not included. | Shape names, choices, feedback, progress, and help are exposed as text. Manual screen-reader testing remains pending. Prereaders need the shape name read aloud before choosing. |
| Letter Lanterns | Use Tab and Enter or Space to choose a letter, request help, and continue. | All choices and actions use large touch controls. | Untimed. Correct feedback stays visible until Next round is chosen. | Only small decorative effects are used, and they are removed when reduced motion is requested. | No sound is required. | Show the pair reveals the uppercase and lowercase forms together in every round. Spoken instructions are not included. | Letters, choices, feedback, progress, and help are exposed as text. Manual screen-reader testing remains pending. There is no spoken prompt, so prereaders may need the first instruction read aloud. |
| Hippo & Friends | Move with the arrow keys or A and D, jump with Space, and use labelled menu controls. | On-screen movement and jump controls are available on touch screens. | Platform jumps require timing and quick reactions; there is no time limit. | Decorative motion is reduced when the operating system requests reduced motion. | No sound is required to play. | The welcome overlay shows movement and jump keys, and large touch controls stay visible during play. Spoken instructions are not included. | Menus are labelled, but active platform play depends on visual positioning. Manual screen-reader testing remains pending. The platform course is primarily visual and may not suit players who cannot track moving objects or make timed inputs. |
| Space Shooter | Move with arrow keys or A and D, fire with Space, and pause with Escape. | On-screen movement and firing controls are available on touch screens. | Enemies and hazards require continuous, quick reactions. | Reduced-motion mode removes screen shake, particle bursts, and flashing effects. | Optional starship sound effects with a sound toggle and volume control. No sound is required to play. | The start screen lists keyboard and touch controls, and Play, Pause, and Star burst remain native buttons. Spoken instructions are not included. | Menus are labelled, but active arcade play depends on visual tracking. Manual screen-reader testing remains pending. The game is fast, visually dense, and not designed for screen-reader-only play. |
| Nature Notice | All in-game choices use labelled buttons and can be reached by keyboard. | All in-game choices use large touch controls. | Untimed. Every mission waits for the player and grown-up. | Decorative motion is removed when reduced motion is requested. | The listen mission uses real-world sound; the website itself does not play required audio. | Picture-led mission cards, labelled first and second notes, and a native reopenable grown-up dialog model the screen-away activity. Spoken instructions are not included. | Mission text, two labelled notes, comparison, progress, and the later-day prompt are exposed as text. Manual screen-reader testing remains pending. A grown-up must help choose a safe place and may need to read the mission aloud. The two notes are self-reported observations, not an assessment or proof of what happened away from the screen. |
| Sentence Train | Every word, punctuation position, help, undo, reset, read-back, pause, continue, finish, and restart action uses a labelled native control. | Every essential action has a tap route with targets at least 44 CSS pixels; dragging is not required. | Untimed with unlimited retries. Correct repairs stay visible until the child chooses the next action. | Train and read-back motion are brief, pause safely, and use a non-moving visible state when reduced motion is requested. | No sound is used or required; every cue and result is visible. | Replayable help names the capital-letter start rule and full-stop finish rule, then highlights one target position without completing it. Spoken instructions are not included. | Sentence words, start and finish positions, chosen boundary marks, progress, feedback, guidance, read-back state, and completion are exposed as text and status updates. Manual screen-reader testing remains pending. The fixed candidate pack has no selected phonics programme and still requires named pack mapping plus external educator/content approval. It is not claimed to be decodable and may need adult reading support. This activity does not assess handwriting, independent reading, phonics mastery, grammar mastery, fluency, or Year 1 attainment. |
| Place Value Harbour | Use Tab with Enter or Space for every control. After a correct check, focus moves to Next; after Next, it moves to the new prompt. The native pause dialog restores focus to Pause. | All actions are labelled touch controls of at least 44 CSS pixels; no dragging is required. | Untimed. There are no scores, lives, streaks or automatic exchanges. Correct feedback remains until Next is chosen. | No motion is needed for play. Reduced-motion preferences remove the small harbour transitions. | No sound or audio prompt is supplied or required. | A voluntary ten-parcel practice dock, a three-step visual hint ladder, labelled bays, visible unit marks, finite mini retry docks and separate Target/Current equations are available. Spoken instructions are not included. | The current bays, equations, prompts, feedback and quantity changes are text-labelled and announced. Manual screen-reader review remains open. The optional number word route is visible text, not recorded speech. Some children may benefit from an adult reading the short prompts. Accessibility-user review remains open. |
| Habitat Sorting Station | Tab, Enter, and Space operate every station control. Correct feedback moves focus to Next find; altered retries and new finds receive deliberate focus. | Every core choice is a large native button. No dragging, swiping, or precise pointing is required. | Untimed. There are no lives, scores, streaks, automatic advances, or speed requirements. Correct feedback stays until Next find is chosen. | The CSS illustration is static. Reduced-motion preferences also remove interface transitions. | The bundled local recording of the two-question rule starts only after an explicit button press. Sound is optional and the printed rule remains available if audio is unavailable. | Every find has a visible state qualifier, three labelled evidence trays, repeatable three-step clues, and a setting-only notice. The two-question rule is printed in the game and has a local replay button. Spoken instructions are included. | Find names, state qualifiers, setting-only boundary, decision labels, feedback, retry checks, and progress are readable text with live feedback. Manual screen-reader review remains open. The recording's wording and pronunciation need primary-science review. Some children will benefit from adult co-reading. Manual accessibility-user review remains open. |

Spoken instructions are not included. | The sentence, candidate labels, feedback, progress, and completion log are exposed as text. Manual screen-reader testing remains pending. Human content, accessibility-user, child/caregiver, and recorded-natural-audio review remain open. Fixed cards do not assess independent reading, writing, grammar mastery, or attainment. |

Correct results focus Next; new observations focus their prompt; retry and edit receive focus. | Large native buttons provide every core action. No dragging or precise pointing is required. | Untimed. There are no scores, lives, streaks or automatic advances. Results remain until Next is chosen. | Earth uses a short deliberate step; reduced motion skips interpolation. | No sound is required or supplied. | A stable North Pole globe, fixed light direction, outlined triangle and square markers, patterned night side, visible counter-clockwise eastward arrow, replayable help, and an optional labelled example. Manual testing still required
Automated checks catch regressions but cannot prove accessibility. The current games still need recorded testing with VoiceOver and NVDA, keyboard-only use, browser zoom, high contrast, touch, and children who use assistive technology. Spoken prompts are not available unless a game row explicitly says otherwise.
