About Loop Lanterns

Build a shorter Repeat program for a lantern plan, predict its output, and trace it one light at a time.

Suggested age
Ages 8–9
Practice
Ordered reasoning with repetition, prediction, and trace checking in a small coding-style language
Pace
Untimed; a finite set of six strings.
Controls
Keyboard, Touch
Reading
Short instructions, labelled shape names, and optional hints
Instruction help
The plan, editable tiles, numbered trace and replayable illustrated help panel show the repeat model. Spoken instructions are not included.

How to play

Inspect the visible plan, edit code tiles into a shorter Repeat program, build a prediction tape, then Step or Run its lantern trace and compare the strips.

Adult help

A grown-up can read the first instruction, name the three shapes, and discuss one repeating unit. They do not need to supply a program.

Accessibility

No spoken instruction. A child who needs help reading may need the first instruction read aloud.

Detailed access information
Keyboard
Every editor, prediction, trace, help and navigation action is a labelled native button with visible focus.

Primary add, predict, Step, Run and progression actions are at least 48 CSS pixels; auxiliary controls are at least 44.

Shape names, letters, plan, prediction, actual output and trace position are text. Manual screen-reader review remains pending.
Timing
Untimed. Run adds one discrete lantern every 900 ms and can be paused; Step is always available after prediction.
