Use everyday materials. Adjust the challenge without changing the purpose.
Make and mend a pattern
You need: Two kinds of blocks, shapes, colours, or movements.
- Make a short repeating unit.
- Repeat it three times.
- Hide or change one item and ask what needs fixing.
Make it easier: Use a simple two-item pattern such as clap, tap, clap, tap.
Try more: Use a three-item unit and explain where each repeat begins.
Adult role: Ask the child to explain the rule instead of only naming the missing item.
Mystery object clues
You need: One familiar object kept out of sight.
- Give one clue about shape or use.
- Add a clue after each guess.
- Swap roles when the object is found.
Make it easier: Choose from three visible objects.
Try more: Set a limit of three precise clues before guessing.
Adult role: Model clues that describe evidence without saying part of the object’s name.
