Two complete activities to try

Use everyday materials. Adjust the challenge without changing the purpose.

Borrow a colour palette

You need: Paper, drawing tools, and one safe object or view.

  1. Find three colours in what you can see.
  2. Make a mark or patch for each colour.
  3. Draw a new picture using only that small palette.

Make it easier: Choose two strongly different colours together.

Try more: Mix or layer marks to make one lighter and one darker version of each colour.

Adult role: Talk about choices and observations; avoid correcting the finished picture.

One shape, many ideas

You need: Paper and any drawing tool.

  1. Draw the same simple shape three times.
  2. Turn each copy into something different.
  3. Name one detail that changed the meaning of each shape.

Make it easier: Start with circles and offer ideas such as a face, wheel, or fruit.

Try more: Combine two shapes into one scene and add a short title.

Adult role: Invite explanations instead of guessing what the drawing is meant to be.
