Two complete activities to try
Use everyday materials. Adjust the challenge without changing the purpose.
First-letter hunt
You need: Three safe objects from the room.
- Name each object slowly.
- Say its first sound together.
- Find another object that starts the same way.
Make it easier: Offer two objects and ask which one starts with the chosen sound.
Try more: Group five objects by their first sound, then add a hand-written label.
Adult role: Say the sound clearly without turning the activity into a spelling test.
Build a tiny story
You need: One toy or everyday object.
- Choose a main character.
- Take turns adding one short sentence.
- Retell the beginning, middle, and end.
Make it easier: Offer a choice of two things that could happen next.
Try more: Change one event and explain how the ending changes.
Adult role: Write down the child’s words only if they want to keep the story.
